Compressive sensing for through-the-wall radar imaging

چکیده
Through-the-Wall Radar imaging (TWRI) is emerging as a viable technology for providing high quality imagery of enclosed structures. TWRI makes use of electromagnetic waves to penetrate through building wall materials. Due to the " see " through ability, TWRI has attracted much attention in the last decade and has found a variety of important civilian and military applications. Signal processing algorithms have been devised to allow proper imaging and image recovery in the presence of high clutter, which is caused by front walls and multipath due to reflections from internal walls. Recently, research efforts have shifted towards effective and reliable imaging under constraints on aperture size, frequency, and acquisition time. In this respect, scene reconstructions are being pursued with reduced data volume and within the emerging compressive sensing (CS) framework. In this paper, we present a review of the CS based scene reconstruction techniques that address the unique challenges associated with fast and efficient imaging in urban operations. Specifically, we focus on ground-based imaging systems for indoor targets. We discuss CS based wall mitigation, multipath exploitation, and change detection for imaging of stationary and moving targets inside enclosed structures.

Compressive Sensing Meets Noise Radar
In this chapter, we discuss how noise radar systems are suitable for realizing practically the promises of compressive sensing in radar imaging, in general, and in urban-sensing applications, in particular. Noise radar refers to radio frequency imaging systems that employ transmit signals that are generated to resemble random noise waveforms. Noise radar has recently been successfully applied t...
متن کاملWall Clutter Mitigations for Compressive Imaging of Building Interiors
Exterior wall returns affect the accuracy and fidelity of the imaged scene in urban sensing and through-the-wall radar imaging applications. For reliable imaging of stationary indoor scenes, the front wall reflections need to be properly attenuated. In this chapter, wall mitigations are addressed in the context of compressive sensing for stepped-frequency radar operation. Wall mitigation scheme...
متن کاملInteraction Multipath in Through-the-Wall Radar Imaging Based on Compressive Sensing
Clutters caused by multipath have been widely researched in through-the-wall radar imaging (TWRI). The existing research work of multipath only consider reflections from the wall, while in the condition of a small scene, with the increasing number of targets, multipath from targets to targets, named interaction multipath, usually generates ghosts, which degrades the performance of TWRI. In orde...

We consider imaging of the building interior structures using Compressive Sensing (CS) with applications to through-the-wall imaging and urban sensing. We consider a monostatic synthetic aperture radar imaging system employing stepped frequency waveform. The proposed approach exploits prior information of building construction practices to form an appropriate sparse representation of the buildi...
متن کاملTwo-stage through-the-wall radar image formation using compressive sensing
We introduce a robust image-formation approach for through-the-wall radar imaging (TWRI). The proposed approach consists of two stages involving compressive sensing (CS) followed by delay-and-sum (DS) beamforming. In the first stage, CS is used to reconstruct a complete set of measurements from a small subset collected with a reduced number of transceivers and frequencies. DS beamforming is the...
